We had a wonderful day today. We took a tour that lasted over 12 hours and it was fantastic. We were tired when we got home but it was worth every minute. It is called the Fjord Express to Juneau. You board a 65 foot catamaran in the Skagway harbor that is especially designed for the waters of Lynn Canal. The Lynn Canal is our continent's longest and deepest glacial fjord. It is the same route all the cruise ships come in to Alaska called the inside passage. It was awesome! The boat took us first to Haines, Alaska to pick up a few more in their harbor. Then it was about a three hour tour to Juneau. Once you are in Juneau you have three more hours to view the city and have lunch and then you go to see the Mendenhall Glacier and waterfalls.
On the way we saw many glaciers the guide pointed out including one called Rainbow Glacier. We saw tons of bald eagles flying and nesting. We saw humpback whales, porpoises and tons of sea lions hanging out on the rocks. When we got to the harbor in Juneau a coach met us and took us into the city where we had 3 hours to have lunch, shop and visit museums etc. After the three hours you are picked up again and taken to see the Mendenhall Glacier that is fabulous. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Skagway. The cost was $155 each. We have had a wonderful time in Skagway and Juneau; I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
