Where is Shirley? travel blog

We arrived at 9am – very hot day.

Early excursion - Historical, Traditional and Picturesque Acapulco.

We journeyed through the main Avenue Costera Miguel Aleman in route to the Chapel of Peace, located in the Las Brisas residential area. Located in one of the most exclusive residential areas in Mexico, the Chapel is a place of serenity & peace with breathtaking views of the bay & Roqueta Island. Next we visited the Acapulco Historical Museum located inside the Fort of San Diego. The present structure was rebuilt on the ruins of the former Fort which was destroyed in an earthquake.

During our stop at "La Quebrada", we saw the world famous high cliff divers, plunging nearly 130 feet in to a small fracture.

The tour concluded with a drive through the old part of town where we stopped to visit the Flamingo Hotel - once the refuge of the Hollywood gang because many movie stars of the fifties spent their holidays here.

Tired and hot we arrived back at the terminal – a Mexican party was hopping at the bar at the wharf. Time for a wander around the shops before we sailed from Acapulco.

After dinner we chose to go the movie Invictus – in brief, Nelson Mandela & rugby – well worth seeing.

Next destination – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – travel distance 687 nautical miles.
