Texas Bluebonnets

On a hillside..

In a field with rocks...

Covering the entire field...

White thistles

The Enchanted Rock

Camel and friends

Today we found the Texas Bluebonnets!! In the right part of the county, they are everywhere!! We got a slow start to the day - waiting for Wes to feel better and checking the weather along our route home. We finally decided we should stay for another day. So, we called Bill and Helen to see what their plans were and they had gone on a different drive than yesterday and found the Bluebonnets. So we decided we would do that too and meet up with them later in the afternoon.

We drove north toward Llano and the flowers were everywhere!! On the roadsides, up into the fields, in every little open space - there were Bluebonnets. We spent a few hours driving around the country and then headed back to town. On our drive toward Llano, we passed the Enchanted Rock State Park. We did not go in, but could get a good view from the road, so took a photo of that. Evidently it is the largest solid granite rock in the US, and maybe the world. You can climb to the top - about 1 1/2 miles as well as take hikes etc. all around it. Very impressive rock! We have noticed a lot of granite mills and businesses in this area, so granite mining and milling must be one of the local products in this area.

On all of our drives out east of Fredericksburg, we have seen this ranch with a camel in the front yard. I kept saying we needed a photo, so this time when we went by, we stopped and snapped his picture. I don't know if this is a game ranch or what, but there are several kinds of "hoofed" animals there. Not what we normally see on a country farm.

We called Bill and Helen and they had been to Luchenbach. Sounds like they had a great time. We stopped by their house for a few minutes and ended up staying til evening. We had a really good visit. The park they are in is very nice and we would consider that one a good choice as well as ours.

We went out for a pizza and stopped by WalMart to pick up some dry ice. Since we are not headed home on schedule, we need to keep our fish and shrimp frozen.

Another check on the weather ahead of us - not good, so we have decided to just stay put until Monday when everything clears out and warms up a little. That is definitely another plus for retirement and RVing. We don't have a schedule to keep and it can be altered when needed or desired. So, we will be here a couple more days and will be doing some more exploring.

Hope all of you at home are keeping warm and haven't put away your snow shovels. :-)
