After a short stretch on US 31in Alabama, we made our way back on to the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System and traveled I65 and I10 to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. We stopped for the night in Biloxi at Parker's Landing RV Park. We pulled into site 77 right next to the Biloxi River. I passed through Biloxi in 2011 Triangle Tour and stopped for lunch at the Blowfly Inn, a DDD. Since we had to go to Rite Aid for a prescription renewal, we went to the Blow Fly for dinner. It was pretty good - fired green tomatoes (sorry Cindy the green tomatoes you gave ripened before I could make FGT), Seafood Fra Diavlo (me), crab cakes (Sue), and a shred lemon berry cake for dessert. As we left the restaurant I couldn't pass up taking pictures of the sunset over Bayou Bernard. We drove down to the beach along the Gulf of Mexico to catch the fading sunset. Along the way back to Winnie, we drove along the ocean drive and even though it was dark it was clear that the first 2 blocks off the gulf have only seen limited rebuilding form the devastation of Katrina just over 10 years ago. The Casinos have rebuilt, a few new high rises and some commercial building have been built, but very few residences.
We'll be headed to New Iberia, LA tomorrow to keep our appointment on the 20th to get the Winnie's generator repaired. Stay tuned.
