6/10 – 6/30
It was a 401-mile trip to Spokane (I15, I90) with an overnight at a fishing access lot by Saint Regis, Montana. In Spokane, we parked in Joanne and Chad’s (our daughter and her husband) yard. Some of the things that kept us busy for the rest of the month included:
>Joanne and Chad had a birthday party/BBQ for their friend Lisa Curtis. Guests included the rest of the Curtis family (Tony and daughters Lillian and Morgan) and Hani and Cara Almenaya and their children Mbarak and Gihan. Ken cooked salmon and a hamburger for himself.
>Joan has been busy doing yard work and some painting. Ken fixed some things on the house (wipers and door) and is still in the process of working on an electrical problem in Joanne’s house.
>We took a trip up to Newport, Washington to visit with some Casa Grande friends. Carol and Richard are staying with their son in Elk and Sandi and Bob were staying at a Thousand Trail campground in Newport. We all visited at Bob and Sandi’s and then went for Mexican food in Newport.
>Joanne planned a belated birthday party for Ken. People started arriving starting with Kenny Tarkin (our son) on the 17th. On the 18th Sue (Joan’s sister) and Chuck Hernandez arrived and Gary (Ken’s brother) and Sue Tarkin arrived on the 19th.
>Joanne, Chad, Kenny and Joan went on a canoe trip down the Little Spokane River. Ken was in charge of moving vehicles.
>We went on a day trip with Chuck and Sue to Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho. We drove about 1/3 of the way around the lake, walked the “world’s longest floating pier” in the world and had a great 4 star lunch at Toro Viego (118 Second Street, Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho 208-667-7676).
>June 20th was party time. Between relatives and friends, there were over 40 people at the “front yard” event to celebrate Ken’s 70th birthday. Kenny did the cooking which included about ten different type sausages. Music was supplied by a DJ. Everyone had a great time!
>The day after the party a large group (us, Joanne and Chad, Gary and Sue, Kenny, Chuck and Sue, Hani and family, and Tony and family) went on a trip to Mica Lake in Idaho. We brought a bunch of canoes and kayaks and rowed over to the beach for lunch and games.
>Joanne, Kenny, us, Gary, Sue, Chuck and Sue went into town to check out Riverfront Park. We took the cable cars for a view of the falls (while Joanne took Kenny to the airport), checked out the old Ferris wheel and Joan and Sue H. checked out the slide on the giant wagon. Next we drove to Manito Park where we checked out the conservatory, formal gardens, rose garden and Japanese garden. In the evening Gary treated us all to a 4 star Mexican dinner at El Comalon (10414 W. US2 suite 6, Airway Heights 509-279-2210).
>Had the windshield of the Jeep replaced because the crack could not be repaired.
>The last week of the month has been pretty hot with temperatures over 100 degrees. We were forced to try the air-conditioning at a 4 star pizza place called Bennidito’s Pizza (1426 S Lincoln St., Spokane 509-455-7411). Both the pizza crust and the air-conditioning were excellent.
In June we put 606 miles on the house and 770 miles on the Jeep.
