|We left Potosi at 8 and started out on the long drive to La Paz 500km away. We had to fill up on diesel as we had word that there was a problem with fuel in La Paz as usual!! Apparantly in Bolivia there are always strikes and demos about one thing or another as it is so corrupt. Luckily the road was a paved one , the past few days had been complete boneshakers!!! Finally rolled into La Paz at about half six. The first view you get of the city is unbelieveable! Its just like a crater between all these mountains, with houses clinging to the sides. Our hotel is lovely again not looking forward to camping again !! That evening, a few of us went for a meal and then to a bar where we sat til about 2 in the morning. Very civilised given that 5am has been the usual time for recent nights out !!
Yesterday we did a city tour with the son of the hotel owner, Julios. This was excellent. Julios told us loads about la Paz and Bolivia and the situation here. Which is dodgy by all accounts!! Got some great pictures of the city. We arrived back at the hotel at 2 ish and i went to the Iberia office with Luce as she needed to change her flight home. I then had to phone Copa airlines to change my flight to Guatemala, as Dragoman were seemingly incabable of doing it for me. What a pain ! I was on the bloody phone for about half an hour trying to tell this woman what i needed to do. Eventually she understood and I am now sorted for getting to Guatemala. No thanks to Dragoman who gave me the wrong phone number.
Arrived back at the hotel and a doctor came to look at my ankle. He was v funny! He said that it was just the ligaments repairing which i knew anyway, and has prescribed my some gel to make it heal and some painkillers in case it hurts on the Inca Trail. Yes I will be doing the old Inca Trail now , the doctor seemed to think it would be fine and I am buggered if I am going to miss that!!! Gotta at least try it I think. Actually, I think the lack of breath will far outweigh any niggling ankle pain.
So here I am today in La Paz. It's a fab city. We are off shortly to look around the markets and spend some cash. Very cheap in Bolivia! A meal is about $2 to $3. I have put my photos on a disc but its not working so I have to go back to the shop and get them to do it again !! Hopefully some piccies by tonight.
We are having a group meal tonight for someones birthday then tomorrow we head to Lake Titikaka.
Adios for now !
