On Sunday morning we left Cowtown RV Park in Aledo, Texas and made the 220-mile trip to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This time we took what Texas calls a Farm Road about half of the trip before getting on an interstate. The Farm Road was much more interesting, we saw many small towns, ranches, lots of cattle and horses and all along the way the flowering trees were in full bloom. We arrived in Oklahoma City mid-afternoon and then drove into downtown Oklahoma City to look around. Oklahoma City is the state capital of Oklahoma so we got to see the state capital complex. The campground we are staying at, Twin Fountain RV Park is on the northern edge of Oklahoma City and close to everything. It is a very nice park, clean and neat, with nice large sites. Top on their list of amenities is the storm shelter…..something you need to consider in this area. On Sunday night the winds picked up and it felt like our little motor home was going to fly away.

On Monday we did a little exploring and went to the Oklahoma City Zoo that is about 5 minutes from the campground. It is a really nice zoo. There are a lot of animals all in landscaped habitats, not cages and the zoo grounds are well maintained. It was still quite windy but sunny and warm, a perfect afternoon for a zoo outing. Monday night as we watched TV each commercial was interrupted with weather announcements of severe thunderstorm warnings, with high winds and quarter size hail. At that point the sky looked fine but according to the weather reports we were right in the path of it. Within a half hour the sky went black and it started to rain hard. Lightning flashed all around us but without the loud cracks that usual accompanies lightning in New York and I didn’t hear any thunder. The storm passed quickly and thankfully the hail didn’t happen in this location.
