On the road this morning before 8am! Left the Walmart in Sandpoint and headed towards the Canadian border, about an hour away. They have done some good things to the road, making passing lanes and smoothing the road, and so the trip was uneventful.
As this journal has progressed, we've made comment on all of our US/Canada border crossings. The crossing at Eastport was the easiest yet. The guy came on board, looked at the passports, asked whether we had cigarettes or booze and how much we had spent in the US (about $200 this time on clothing mainly). That was it!
We traveled down the highway through Yahk and on to Cranbrook before turning north towards our destination. To avoid last nights fiasco, Elaine phoned ahead to Fairmont to confirm that they had a spot for us (they did), and we arrived just after noon. We set up camp (our final stop before going home) and basked in sunshine, electricity, heat, and all the other comforts of home. Took Cassie and Tucker for a couple of walks and checked out the lodge, bar and other amenities. This campground has improved since we were here last, with one 'deluxe' area with paved roads and watered grass... very nice. The only issue is that, although the campground has Wi Fi internet, it requires a special modem that they provide for a fee. However, since they don't have any modems, we have to walk over to the lodge to get access, which IS for free. Not a big deal, but we'll remember to ask the right question next time (not 'do you have internet', but also 'do you have modems available'). We saw one of these modems later...looks like something that was used by Noah on the Ark!
We'll be here two or maybe three days, to try to get in some golf and some hot pool time.
