Memorial Day Celebration May 29, 2007

Sunday afternoon we visited the cemetery and placed all the appropriate flowers on the graves. The VFW Auxiliary had already put out the individual flags for all the veterans graves. We have lots of family and friends buried here and the responsibility has become ours to place all the flowers. My Mom used to have that job, and now it has become ours. I recall my Dad saying he knew more people in the cemetery than anywhere else and I am beginning to understand that.

On Monday, our VFW post put up 44 full size flags and had a ceremony where they placed a memorial wreath and other symbols honoring our veterans. We have a lot of patriotism in our community and the ceremony was well attended. We had another opportunity to visit with out of town relatives and friends that were here for the weekend.

We returned home and spent the rest of the day mowing. Things are really growing fast and furious around here since we have had an unusual amount of moisture.
