SUNDAY, JULY 23 - LATE AFTERNOON
From the VLA I continued west through the Cibola National Forest to Quemado, then north to Techado and finally northeast through the beautiful Cibola Wilderness to Grants. The highway passes along the western edge of the Acoma Indian Reservation. There is some very dramatic scenery, with huge rock hills rising straight up from the valley floor. I stopped a couple of times in El Malpais National Monument to take photos. I guess it's a good thing there weren't very many places big enough for a motorhome to pull off because I would have still been out there at sunset taking photographs!
By the time I got to the Bar S RV Park just outside Grants, it was nearly 7:30. There were several RVs in front of me waiting to check in, but there were enough spaces for all of us. I learned to my delight that there is a truck-washing station next door to the RV park where I can take Daisy for a much-needed bath.
