Looking down the Laughlin "Strip"

Don Laughlin's Riverside Casino/Hotel - the guy that started the city.

Colorado Belle - another casino shaped like a riverboat

Driving through the Mohave Desert in eastern California - nothing but sage...

Thousands of wind generators on the western edge of the Mohave Desert.

We left Laughlin early in the morning and headed back across the Colorado River into Bullhead City, Arizona, where the gas was much cheaper! We filled up and then headed south towards the highway which cut west into California. The roads go through miles of the Mohave Desert. At first there are at least some Joshua trees, but later there is nothing much but sagebrush leading up into the hills, which are steadily getting bigger. By the time we reached the I-5 at Bakersfield we were into crop land again. We passed many thousands of acres planted with almond trees, vinyards, orange orchards, etc. We spent the evening in a rest area, and got a good start again the next morning.
