Right away we had places to be and things to do. We went to church Sunday morning and the spent the afternoon and evening working on the Amusement Association's carnival and the Antiquers Club cleanup. On Monday evening, we had a downpour - 2 inches of rain. After it was over, we worked at the carnival again getting all the rides set up and running and the concession stand ready to go. We worked Wednesday night at the carnival and it rained again. Only 1 1/2 inches this time. On Thursday and Friday, we worked and attended the Antiquers lunch and tractor pull. Then at 4pm each day, we worked at the carnival in the concession stand. Both were a big success!
Saturday morning at 10 am was the parade. Wes and I served lemonade for the Library Board and had the opportunity to see and visit lots of old friends.
This was such a "happy" fair. I haven't been able to put my finger on why, but everyone seems so much more positive and - just happier. As I looked around at all the activities going on, I am amazed that the entire fair is organized and run by volunteers. There are a few paid people, but most are there just helping out, volunteering wherever there is a need. We are so glad that we have had the opportunity to move "back home" and experience the small town advantages again.
On Saturday afternoon, we attended a memorial service for one of our long time, home town friends. He died in a motorcycle accident in Arizona and was buried there, but there were so many family and friends in Tribune, that his family came here and held a memorial service. It was a sad occasion, but it was good to see his family and relive some of the old memories of happier times.
All in all, a good week.
