Saturday, August 11, the annual Pleasant Fest was held at the Pleasant Valley Ranch just south of Wallace, Kansas. This ranch is owned by the Smith family. It was once the site of the old Fort Wallace and Custer was known to have spent some time there training his troops. It is a beautiful area nestled beneath the huge old cottonwood trees with a stream nearby. A lot of the old fort out-buildings have been moved in and renovated to provide cabins, work shops, cooking kitchens etc. There is a pond with a bridge over it and plenty of camping area. Joan Smith originally bought this ranch as a retreat for her family and her son Mark and his wife Cindy eventually bought it and have done much of the work to make it such a beautiful place. Every year they invite people to come and enjoy an evening of great food and entertainment. They are very gracious hosts and work very hard to make this an enjoyable event. There are bands, musical numbers, poets, dancing and story telling on the stage. It is a time of relaxing and socializing with friends and neighbors and we look forward to it each year. This year we were able to invite Howard and Linda Payne of RV Dreams to join us since they were staying at our house for a few days.
A great evening was had by all. Thank you Smith family.
