Turkey, Deer and Longhorn Steer
Apr 4, 2011
|The title of this journal indicates only three of the many different animals we saw on our journey today. Besides turkey, deer, and longhorn steer, we saw armadillos, emu, horses, cattle, llamas, goats, and sheep. Of course there were dogs along the road or passing in cars, with their heads out the window, or maybe riding in the back of a pickup truck.
A deer wasn’t the only thing we saw flashing past the front of our truck. A pink bucket blew across in front of us as we passed a house with children’s playground stuff in the yard.
The wind out of the north, northwest, was steady at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts much higher than that.
Driving into the wind for the entire trip we watched as our mpg slowly dropped from 11.6 mpg to 10.3 for the whole trip.
Except for the wind, the trip was very enjoyable. Highway 17 from Kerrville to the junction with Hwy 281 is an excellent route to take. Wild flowers brightened the path most of the way.
We pulled out of Buckhorn at 8:10 this morning and arrived at Mitchell RV Park in Perrin, Texas, at 1:25 in the afternoon.
We didn’t even disconnect from the RV and were set up by 2:00 PM.
This RV Park is an excellent place to spend some time, and is even better than when we were here before. They now have cable tv and wi-fi.
Our friends, Mike & Sandy will be here around 5:30 this afternoon, and we are going out to dinner together, for some good food and even better conversation.
We look forward to seeing these good friends again.
I have decided to post this journal early because we may be out pretty late this evening.
I may have a few pictures to post for you later.
For now we are glad to be off the road on this very windy day.
