Today I saw Dr. Viet Tran for a second opinion on whether I should agree to a third back surgery to extend the rods further up my spine. He didn’t discount my suggestion that the seatback mishap caused damage to my spine or the rods. He looked at the prominent vertebra and poked around on the area. Without X-rays he could not determine exactly where the pain originates; so he told me that I should request a pointer on the spot when I have my next X-ray at Dr. Geck’s office. That would show definitely where the problem originates. If it shows that the hardware is what is causing the pain, it could either be replaced with a new rod or possibly be removed altogether. He supports my contention that extending the rods would not solve the problem since the pain is below the top of the existing rods. That was very encouraging to me.
