We're on the way home. We stopped at the Shenandoah Valley Campground in Mount Jackson, VA which was about half the distance between Fancy Gap and home for an overnighter. The weather on Wednesday morning was so nice we decided to stay another day and drive up to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. We got on the Drive at Throton Gap near Luray and drove north to Front Royal, VA before heading back to the campground. We picked up a lunch at the Elkwallow Wayside and ate in the picnic area. There were some spectacular views at some of the overlooks as the trees were starting to turn colors. Toward the end of Skyline Drive we stopped at the Range View Overlook for sunset unfortunately a cloud bank moved in hiding the sun. There were some breaks that allowed sun rays to shine through to the ground. Not a lot of color, but some dramatic shafts of light. We headed back to the campground and stopped for pizza at the Italian Job in New Market. An enjoyable day for our last of this trip. We head home in the morning.
