Our place in the woods

Lovely mud!

Our time in Kansas at an end, it was time to move on to the next stop, Fingerlakes State Park in Missouri. We had stayed here for an overnight on our way through previously and thought it would be fun to stay a bit longer. This area is the site of a reclaimed strip mine from the early 50s. Amazing tree and shrubbery growth since then, they made it into a huge ATV and motorcycle area play area. It was practically empty when we got there, but filled every spot on the weekends. It had also been raining for several days before we got there and continued into the night.

The next day the weather had cleared so we tried to go for a walk on one of the paths. We made it down to the river, but just barely. With that kind of mud, we were at least an inch taller by the time we made it back to the pavement! With the walk in the woods aborted, we drove into town to do a bit of shopping. At Walmart of course. The first thing we noticed was a funny noise in the truck. We stopped, looked and nothing. So the first stop was at the Dodge dealer to have it checked out. This turned out to be a vacuum booster hose for the power steering and the brakes, which of course they could replace for a nominal fee. Ha!

That done, we went on to the Walmart to get our shopping done and went back home.

Distance to this campground: 314 miles
