Continuing up Hwy 395, we drove to John Day, Oregon. We were originally going to dry camp at the John Day Elks but the weather will be cold overnight and we’d like some heat, so we went to the Grant County Fairgrounds.
After many hours of driving through Sage Brush desert and past alkaline lakes, we had a little rain, then went through a narrow winding canyon. There were many tall buttes. Then a wide, long valley that was owned by one ranch (we learned later), but very little cattle.
At the fairgrounds the RV park was nice with full hook ups but with lots of trees, so no satellite tonight. I had made reservations over phone and our site was marked with our name – well sort of our name. There was gurgling stream nearby which sounded nice. After setting up I bathed Gidget while it was still warm and later we went to the John Day Elks Lodge for a drink and some camaraderie. We also had dinner there.
