We had an early start today. We were supposed to be picked up at 6.45am for our tour. They arrived at 6.30am and we weren't ready. A bit of an argument flowed with the driver but he agreed to wait 10 mins. We were not impressed especially as we ended up waiting for half an hour in the cold bus until everyone else had been picked up....
Anyway, it was off to Naples, about a 2-3 hour trip. Had a quick guided tour of Naples - not worth seeing really, and actually quite grubby. Apparently there was a garbage collectors strike on and there were HUGE mounds of garbage bags everywhere.
Lunch was provided, a typical Italian one of pasta for first course followed by a second course of meat or fish and a vegetable. To put it mildly I am tiring of the lack of variety of food here in Italy and am looking forward to something different once we get to Switzerland.
Pompeii was amazing, totally fascinating place and probably the highlight of our Italian leg. Just to walk the streets and go through the remains of buildings that were inhabited centuries ago left one very humbled. The way the Romans had constructed their city was incredible to say the least.
Then it was a trip off to spend the night in Sorrento. This is one of the places that is supposedly the playground of the rich and famous. We thought it pretty ordinary except for the expensive boutique shops. Overnight a a lovely hotel and a good meal too.
