It's hard to believe that we've only been home about three weeks and it's time to hit the road again. When we arrived at home Easter weekend the weather was below freezing and very windy. Since then April has been changeable as April always is around here. The daffodils have bloomed, the tulips have been going great guns, the grass is green and the leaves are popping out on the trees. I'm feeling a bit anxious about getting annuals planted in the flower bed and the mini vegetable garden going after we get back. They will have a late start, but maybe there will be bargain prices to be had on the left over plants by then.
Friends and family can hardly believe that this trip was motivated by a NASCAR rally - totally out of character for us and for our friends and family as well. We know that there is a NASCAR track nearby in Joliet; we've ridden our bikes around it on a special bike tour. But races at this track are never advertised in the local paper and we don't know when races are scheduled. A neighbor told us that only season tickets are sold to this track and they cost $1200 a piece. No matter how much we enjoy the NASCAR rally, we won't be going to the Joliet track any time soon I guess.
We are following up the rally with a few days at Myrtle Beach. This was a favorite spring break stop when we were still working and it will be great to see it with temperatures more reliably warm. However, this could turn into another bubba experience. When we made the campground reservation, we were told that we will be arriving at the beginning of a ten day Harley Davidson rally. Cyclists are allowed to bring their choppers in to the campsite til 1am. Lets hope the sound soother machine cranked up high can block that out.
One of our retirement goals was to learn about new things that we haven't found time to try til now. Bring it on!
