Lots of "stuff" to sell

Especially books

Friday morning, bright and early (4am), we left for Ulysses, KS. Wes' two sisters and his Mom live there and we were combining with them for a garage sale on Friday and Saturday. We had to get up so early because they live in the Central Time Zone :-). Anything we do that is more than 5 miles east of our house is in the Central Time Zone, so we always are an hour earlier than they are. We arrived in Ulysses and spent about 3 hours unloading all our stuff and setting up and getting ready for customers. Wes' sisters, Wanda and Donna and their friends, Betty and Maxie, all contributed items. We were glad we had an inside location since it was windy and cold outside. We had lunch and the customers began arriving right on time. We had a steady stream of interested people and sold a good amount. Things died down around 7pm and we went to Donna's house for a wonderful dinner she had prepared for all of us. Then to Wanda's house for the night and back to the garage sale Saturday morning - open by 8am. We enjoyed another successful day and had sorted and loaded all the left overs by 1:30 pm. One truck load went to the Goodwill center in Garden City, one truck load was trash, and some things we kept to sell at another sale to be held in the spring. We were surprised at how much we sold and the money we made. I am not a fan of garage sales, but this one could change my opinion on that.

All weekend everyone was talking about the great new homemade pies available at the local grocery store. So, while Wes visited his Mom, Wanda and I went to the store and picked up some pies. They looked great and were frozen. I purchased several since we will be having Thanksgiving dinner in a couple of weeks.

We made the trip back home in good time and I baked the apple pie to try. Everyone was right! They are really good pies. Wes even commented that it was the best apple pie he has ever eaten! That is really an accomplishment. The pies are made by The Village Pie Maker, Eustis, NE 69028. You can see them online at www.villagepiemaker.com. We will certainly be on the lookout for these in the future.

We went to church on Sunday and Monday morning I joined three other women to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for 32 missionaries in Garden City. It was an enjoyable day as we got to know each other a little better and spent some time visiting with these outstanding young men from our church who dedicate two years of their lives serving missions throughout the world. It was especially fun for me since our grandson will be doing this exact same thing - serving a mission - in about 6 months.

Home again in the afternoon with finally a little "breathing room". I had some left overs from the Thanksgiving dinner, so did not have to fix dinner. I tried to stay awake long enough to watch "Dancing With the Stars", but didn't quite make it to the end. I have been really sleep deprived these last few weeks and need to get caught up.

Today we will vote on the Unification of Greeley County and Tribune. More on that tomorrow.
