|We had noticed a sign for this museum when on our way to Bend the other Day, so thought this might be a good outing for the day. Opened in 1982 as an indoor/outdoor museum, it combines regional wildlife, culture, art and natural resourses to promote an understanding of the natural and cultural heritage of the high desert country. It sits on 135 acres south of Bend, Oregon. The outdoor exhibits and various buildings are connected by a ½ mile long paved walk. There is a 53,00 square foot main building. The museum has more than 18,500 artifacts in its collections, as well as many living displays of desert wildlife. Throughout the museum, both indoors and out, were many varied hands-on exhibits designed just for the children. Well worth the price of admission.
