Last one!

Swissair Flight 111 was on a scheduled airline flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, United States to Cointrin International Airport in Geneva, Switzerland.

On 2 September 1998 the aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean southwest of Halifax International Airport at the entrance to St. Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia. The crash site was 5 miles from shore, roughly between the tiny fishing and tourist communities of Peggy's Cove and Bayswater. All 229 people on board died. It was the highest-ever death toll of any aviation accident involving a McDonnell Douglas MD-11. Flammable material used in the aircraft's structure allowed a fire to spread beyond the control of the crew, resulting in the loss of control and crash of the aircraft.

The people in the area opened their homes to the families of the 229 lost. One of the memorials is a special thank you to all the locals who helped. We spoke with a few people living in the area. They said it had a great effect on many in the area.

The memorial is located within view of Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, one of the most visited areas in Nova Scotia. We saw it while driving the scenic drive and stopped to check it out. What a sad story to read. More later from Nova Scotia.
