Today we visited one of the local Amish auctions Homerville, Ohio. The auction is like a huge flea market, but they auction all the produce etc. It was so cool to see one buggy after another full of all the fresh produce grown on the local farms being taken to the auction. They put tags on every batch, everything as small as one pie all the way up to 100 watermelons in a wagon.
Buyers come from all over the area to bid and take back to their local restaurants, grocery stores etc. It was one of the neatest auctions we have ever visited. We didn't bid on anything from the auction because we had already purchased direct from one of the farms, but the prices were outstanding. We saw three huge jars of pickles go for only $1.50. They have these auctions three times a week, and they always sell out. What a great way for all the farmers to move the products and the stores to have the freshest produce possible. I am adding pictures to show you some of what we saw.
