By the time we got to Santorini we were tired of group tours. Lisa bravely offered to drive us around if I booked a car. From the ship we had to take a tender to the shore then a chairlift to the town of Fira. We picked up the car and started heading to the Oia. The place is the quintessential Greek village! It’s full of little whitewashed buildings carved into the hillside. We spent several hours wandering through the shops and galleries. The other stop we made was to one of Santorini’s black sand beaches. It was not especially pretty but we just wanted to have the experience. Returning the car turned out to be fairly complicated because we didn’t have a decent map of town. We finally found the correct lot and even managed to squeeze in one more meal in Fira. The sun was setting as we boarded the tender back to the ship.
