|Wed, 09 Jun: Today's drive was 250 miles and took us through the Big Horn National Forest to Gillette. We crossed the Powder River Pass at 9.666' elevation, and again Carpe's turbocharged engine took us up the hill without missing a beat. Coming down the exhaust brake kept us at a safe speed without frying the brakes.
It was a beautiful drive via US 16, WY 30, US 16, and I-90 to Gillette. We topped up the diesel tank at the Gillette Flying J, and also filled the propane tank while we were there. We are parked at the WalMart in Gillette for the night and plan to dine at the Prime Rib, a local eatery recommended by our niece (and former Gillette resident) Stacy.
Tomorrow we'll drive into Rapid City (actually, a few miles north) where we'll spend a few weeks. If weather permits (threats of thunderstorms) we'll detour to Devils Tower National Monument on the way.
