Today we traveled to Hannibal, MO. I must caution RVers who intend to travel Route 36 across northern Missouri that this is a very rough road. In spite of the air ride system on our RV, this four lane divided highway is rough from Chillicothe eastbound to Macon. The eastbound lane is the old highway, so the westbound direction may be a bit smoother. It seemed odd to go past placed that we know so well, and to pass homes where we knew the people who live inside, as we neared our destination. We arrived at the Mark Twain Campground and got all set up in very little time. We are not experts but we are getting better at the set up and the "get ready to move" operations. We do not have internet service at this campground but I am using my daughters home and computer to get things updated.
This morning, Sept 30th, we took an early morning walk around the campground. One of the things which really is nice is the smell of wood fires in the fire pits, and bacon being cooked over an open fire. We passed by a nice EXCEL 5th wheel and recognized the name of friends, just as they came outdoors. So we stood and talked for a while, were invited to breakfast but declined, and just enjoyed this beginning of the RV lifestyle.
We are going to a wedding this afternoon. Kristopher Gander, the son of good friends, is being married this afternoon, in Monroe City, MO. That is our hometown so we will see many long time friends there.
It sure is nice to hear from our friends back in Wichita also. Please stay in touch.
Time to get busy enjoying this wonderful weather.......
