Snowbirds - Winter 2006 travel blog

When we drove south last month, the bargain outlet malls in San Marcos caught my eye. Now that we are on our way north to an Elderhostel, this seemed like a good spot to pause. After our quiet, pristine stay on the beach, it's a shock to the system to be back in heavy traffic seeing all the familiar franchises and businesses that you can see in Any City, USA. The temperatures hit record highs yesterday and it is also a shock to the system to have temperatures 40º lower today. Driving conditions could get a bit dicey if the freezing rain falls at the wrong moment. We suspect that salt spreaders are not as readily available here as they are at home where 32º with precip is a common occurence in the winter.

We enjoyed our stay on the beach, but we worked for a good hour removing the sand and salt from our rig and truck. Hopefully, our slide outs will not have rusted and can slide in again when it's time to leave. Hopefully they will also not be covered with the forecast ice pellets.

For those of you at home the mall here is a combination of the Premium Outlet in Aurora and the satellite malls in the Gurnee area without the Mills. A nice place to go if you haven't done any shopping since Christmas time, but nothing that you haven't seen at home except for the outlet for Nieman Marcus.
