As we were leaving the motel in Grand Junction, Dan happened upon several couples who were there to raft the Colorado River. He was enthusiastic doing it. I was skeptical, and pointed out that we were expected at our aunt's home in St. George Utah for dinner. But he reminded me that we wanted the trip legacy to our sons to be more than a pell-mell drive across the plains and I had to agree. So, half an hour later we found ourselves on a large inflatable raft gently floating down the Colorado. We dipped in to cool ourselves from the heat and enjoyed a uniquely local experience that we would have missed if we stayed on schedule. We pulled into St. George at around 6:30pm, and our auntie was waiting with two available showers, a wash machine and a delicious Italian dinner. Yay, auntie!
