Leaving Eugene to go up and over the mountains, you immediately start climbing up and up and up some more. The 115 mile drive up and over to the Thousand Trails Resort near Sun River, Oregon was very wet for us. It rained all the way up, but when we got on the east side of the mountains the rain stopped yea! This trip is THE PROOF trial for our new motorhome and it passes with flying colors. The steep long grades (5%, 6% and even a short 8%)are driven at 40 mph, at 3800 rpm in 4th gear... Dave's a happy man ! Making the transition from a super powerful diesel pickup towing 18,000 lbs to a gas driven motorhome pushing/pulling 26,000 lbs is a big change...

We'll be here for 11 days, til the 26th before moving on to Spokane, WA area.

One day we took a ride to follow the Cascade Lakes Loop. We did this several years ago when we were here also, and loved it so much we just had to do it again. Along the way we stopped at an Oregon State fish hatchery that grow trout. Wow, is that an interesting process. Also, we discovered a couple state campgrounds that are along the Fall River, we'll have to come back to those on our return trip to Oregon in a couple years. As our drive progressed we climbed ever higher in elevation and soon we were into snow along the road and then more and more ! There is so much snow that the back trails and climbing places can't be opened this year, yet...

On the Saturday before we move on, we setup tables to sell our twirlies and lariat rope art. It's always fun to talk with people as they browse our tables.
