Today we visited Lake Crescent located in the Olympic National Park. This is the second deepest lake in Washington. The official maximum depth is 624 feet. Unofficial depths of over 1,000 feet have been recorded. The lake is known for it's brilliant blue waters with exceptional clarity, caused by a lack of nitrogen in the water which inhibits the growth algae. It is crystal clear and smooth as glass.
We drove around about half of the lake and checked out the Roosevelt Cottages. What a great place for a vacation. They have tons of trails, some were the old tracks of old logging railroads along the shores of the lake.
It was another beautiful drive. There is so much to see in this area, we are going to be busy taking it all in. More later from Washington.
