October in Texas is UIL Marching Contest. We attended several competitions where Robert's band showed off their UIL marching show this year.

It was about dancing through the ages and began with a primal beat

,then went all the way to modern dancing styles. The segment that got the most crowd response was "Thriller" when the entire band began to do the dance moves from the video.

Kaki came to visit for her once yearly trek to Texas and she enjoyed seeing Madeleine and Jean-Luc.

. We even had a great lunch at Joe T's with my cousins Bobby and Sheila, but I forgot to get any pictures. Kaki stayed through the Texas/OU game but did not enjoy seeing OU lose. She's a renegade Texan.

Madeleine started skating lessons at The Parks mall skating rink. She was very careful at first but soon began to feel more at home.

They tell the beginners to march on skates - gliding comes much later. Here the rink doesn't really tilt; it just seems that way.

They teach a movement called a swizzle where you move your feet out and in and she was even skating backwards! By the end of the lesson she had really put it all together!

Madison has developed a fondness for our reclining couch. We allow her to sleep on the center potion between the two of us, but as soon as one of us gets up, she moves into our spot.

Moving into Jeff's territory

When you ask her to move, she looks very disappointed that she can't stay in what is obviously a more comfortable place. What a spoiled dog.
