Amanda and Robert graciously opened their guestroom to us while we waited for out apartment to be ready. We truly enjoyed the time with the kids, but were quite ready to move into our own place which that date finally came around.
We had taken over their garage with all the stuff that we had taken out of the Airstream, and we would occasionally order or buy something else as we saw things on sale that we knew we were going to need. The garage was ready to pop.
During this time period, we also put the Airstream up for sale and bought a new car, trading in the big red truck. We got a really nice deal on a Hyundai Sonata, and we are amazed at the gas mileage it gets. On a good day with the truck, we might get 11 mpg, and remarkably about the same if we were towing. Suddenly getting almost three times that along with falling gas prices was a welcome relief.
The Airstream was advertised on the internet, and it didn't take two weeks before we had a buyer. It was really strange watching someone else pull it out of the storage and drive away.
Finally the big weekend came for out move. The hurricane hit Galveston the same night we were packing up the rental truck and cleaning out Amanda and Robert's garage. So it was a rainy day to move, but we have an attached garage. How great is that? Jeff backed the truck right up to the garage opening, and we were not in the weather at all.
Amanda and the kids drove over to help us unpack the truck. They were great. Jean-Luc would just race to the garage to pick up another small box and I would tell him where to put it in the apartment. Madeleine was a great help as well. They both really enjoyed being able to assist. Amanda and I did our best since Jeff really couldn't do much walking. He stayed in the truck and helped to move things to the door.
Finally everything was all out. The kids left and Jeff and I were left with setting up our new space. We didn't have our big furniture yet. The sofa, chairs and tables were going to be delivered the next week, but we did have our old bed which we had lent to Amanda while we were on the road. That bed really felt good that night.
We set about unpacking everything the next day. I couldn't believe we had put so much stuff in the Airstream. The small apartment began to really fill up even though it is about 2 1/2 times bigger than the Airstream. Over the next few days, we had the furniture delivered, got everything stored and even began to get pictures and drapes up.
We knew that we wanted a bigger TV since we only had the 20" from the Airstream. We sat so close to it in the Airstream that it didn't seem that small, but from our new reclining sofas

We're really happy with the apartment overall. We fell in love with this baker's rack which matches our dinette and tables, but we've decided to turn it into a bar of sorts with a variety of glassware.

The reclining sofa pictured previously actually has a power recline which is a godsend for me since I have a hard time kicking the reclining part down because of my knees.
The bathroom didn't have enough storage, so we found this small cabinet
