|Larry and I hope you all enjoyed your Memorial weekend and that you were able to set aside a few minutes of the day to honor all of the Americans who have died fighting for the thing we like the most about our America: the freedom we have to live as we please. As RV'ers we have really come to recognize the importance of that statement.
This year we were blessed to have family with us for the three days. Bonnie and Larry arrived Friday and left Monday around noon. We had a wonderful time together. The weather was a bit strange. It was warm and sunny every morning, but then around 11am each day, large thunderclouds arrived and it rained for short periods of time. Throw in some gusty winds and there you have it! Fiscus told Mom and Dad that if you don't like the weather in Ely, 'just wait 5 minutes!'.
We were smart though, we did all of our fishing and boating in the morning, while it was warm and sunny. Then on Sunday we went to shoot targets with a 22 pistol, a 45, a 357 magnum and Larry's grandfather's 22 rifle. I loved the 22 rifle, it was so cool! I am new at handling guns so safety is an important lesson at this point. I think I've got it down. Certainly a big difference in the feel (and kick) of these weapons. Larry was a hunter for most of his adult life, but now we just shoot with the camera.
Sunday afternoon we bbq'd burgers at Mom and Dad's. I made a macaroni salad and we had sweet, white corn-on-the-cob as well. Have you all tried the white corn? We like the yellow also, but that white corn is just so darn good! And Mom made brownies for dessert. Yummy....Afterward we played a little Hand and Foot before hitting the sack pretty early. All that sun and fresh air seems to wear us out earlier than normal!
Monday morning Larry and Larry took the quads for a ride back in the mountains behind us. They tell me there are more riding trails in Ely than either of them have ever seen. Wish we had two quads so we could ride together. But alas, we have no way to transport two of the. At least not with our current set-up. We have seen a few 5'ers pulling small trailers, even boats, but there are a few states where triple axles aren't allowed. That would limit our ability to freely go where we choose, so not an option for us.
At noon it was time for them to break camp. Our time together went entirely too fast but we will see them again in a couple of weeks. We are going to Vegas to attend granddaughter Jasmine's 1st birthday party. Her birthday is June 6th, and they are celebrating it with a carnival. Larry and Tawnia have been working on this party for weeks. They want her 1st to be very special. Family is coming from as far as Canada to share this day!
Our other granddaughter, Miss Lily, is also having a birthday in June. She will be three years old on the 5th. You might remember that Lily lives in Brookings, Oregon. We visited with them for about 3 weeks in October last year and look forward to seeing them again soon. It's hard to believe that three years have gone by already! Don and Kelly sent us a short video clip of Lily helping Mom make blueberry muffins. Wish you could hear her count as she dropped those blueberries in, one at a time for the whole basket! One, two, three, four....You get the point! Too cute!
Yesterday we lazed around for most of the morning then went to the local laundromat with 6 loads. Brother-in-law Marion works there part-time so we visited with him while we waited for our things to wash and dry. Then we ran by the store to pick up a few things for Mom and I, dropped them off at the house and picked up a box for our video camera. Sony has agreed to fix it for free. Whew, I'm glad about that. Apparently there has been quite an issue with the CCD in some of their models. Ok, technical stuff, I know. But the estimate was $279 to repair it and it has only been used for about 10 hours! It's actually been unusable for the past year and it was a pure accident that I stumbled on a website and got the name of a guy that could help me with the free repair. I ship it this afternoon, and should receive it back in a week or two. I'll let you know. Can't wait to get my Nikon D-50 back when we get to Vegas also. My new little Canon is doing okay temporarily, but sure miss my Nikon!
Okay, gotta run. We are having a yard sale Saturday and I have to get busy setting up the tables and sorting through our 'stuff' one more time. As time goes on we are willing to part with more and more things. I have decided to go ahead and sell the sofa/sleeper that came in our 5'er. I just love having all the extra room we gained by taking it out. We do have to use two of our dining room chairs when we have company now. But that is seldom, and worth it to me. Besides, we mostly visit outside anyway! I have to keep reminding Larry of that. He's still a bit unsure. Wish you were here to help me...it's a big job!
