Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

On our way...It's a lovely day & a good road!

Not far out of Fallon is the Sand Mountain Rec area...

Such a variety of shapes & colors...

The dunes are actually quite pretty...

A popular spot for rv's & sandrails...

I love the mountains in this area...

All alone for miles & miles!!!!

We caught up with another driver :) Pretty in this area, isn't...

The Shoe Tree...Lovely cottonwood

The right side is really high! Have to have a good arm...

One more zoomed in shot, pretty cloud too :)

View to the right of the tree...

Isn't this pretty?

Can you believe how black these 'mountains' look?

Made it to Austin! Now for 'the' climb!!!!! See you next time...

Today's post covers a portion of Monday's drive from Fallon, through Austin & Eureka, eventually arriving in Ely. We traveled Hwy 50, known by many as the Loneliest Road in America. The Loneliest Road roughly parallels the Pony Express Trail, which goes from Silver Springs through Fallon. Remnants of the Pony Express Route are visible for much of the way.

And of course, your zipping along miles from nowhere and LOOK! On the north side of the road! It's a cottonwood tree with hundreds of pairs of shoes hanging in it! It's actually the second shoe tree at this location. The original Shoe Tree was murdered in the middle of the night by chain-saw-wielding thugs :( However, 2011 brought a new year, and a new Shoe Tree. So, we always stop to check it's progress & yes, it's doing quite well :)

Because I took so many pics I'm only going to post half of them today so check back tomorrow for the rest ok? I promise, I'll keep the narrative down to a minimum! Have a great day...
