|Day 102 Istanbul
Up late not till 9.45 and had breakfast on the terrace rooftop restaurant overlooking the blue mosque.. then walked to go through it and saw the reason why it is called the blue mosque...millions of small blue ceramic tiles on the walls etc. we then saw Hagia Sophia and did a tour through Topkapi. This is the sultans Palace of the Ottoman empire... something to behold! It houses many jewels that the Turks stole on their rampages, emeralds and an 86 carat diamond that was found by a farmer in a rubbish bin!! It was extremely hot, so needed a break from the sun so took refuge in our hotel room air conditioning.
We later went out to see the Spice markets, wow, such an array of turkish delights, dried fruits spices, and of course a few token leather shops for good measure! We then walked across the galata bridge across the Golden Horn, to walk to Galata Tower. It is the oldest tower in the world and has great view across the city and could see why the golden horn is named so....the golden sun reflects on the water way that is shaped like a horn. There we met Aysel a turkish friend who we met 7 yrs ago, was lovely to see you Aysel... I know you will be reading this! Was lovely for her to meet the children... and we had a lovely seafood meal under the galata bridge overlooking the city sights.
