It was still raining when we lifted off from EWK in Newark, NJ. The time was 6:00 PM local and 5:00 back in Missouri.

We soon climbed above the gray, rain filled clouds into clear sky and headed east, northeast toward the coast of France across the Atlantic.

The monitor at our seat informed us that we were at 38,000’, with a 123 knot tailwind, giving us a ground speed of 663 knots. This terrific tailwind didn’t last all the way but we did land right at 10:00 AM in Athens, Greece.

That was only 2:00 AM back home but after so many hours of not sleeping and waiting around airports, it didn’t matter much.

We cleared customs in only a few minutes and John, our guide, was waiting for us.

We enjoyed the one hour ride into the city of Athens. John pointed out Hadrian’s Arch, the Acropolis, and the ruins of the temple of Zeus, as well as the original Olympic stadium.

We will tour these things tomorrow.

We were dropped at the front door to our hotel in downtown Athens, with a promise from John to pick us up at 8:00 tomorrow morning.

Marilyn & I had to wait for about an hour to get into our room, but soon were able to lay down on the bed to rest for awhile.

Around 4:00 in the afternoon, we got up and went for a walk to the Plaka area which is a wonderful picturesque are with narrow, tree lined streets, and lined with shops and outdoor café’s.

We found a nice outdoor café and took a table, where we were soon served a traditional Greek salad, and a glass of wine (For Me)’ while Marilyn had a Cappucino with her salad.

We shopped a bit as we walked back to the hotel and are now planning to get a great night of sleep.

We have tours tomorrow morning, before we are dropped off at the ship in the early afternoon.

This has been a very long day night and day, but we are loving every minute of the adventure.

Life is Good!
