A two hour train journey this morning brought us to Bradford On Avon and our rental house for the next four nights. We had a surprise at the train station waiting for us – Pat & Madeleine Donohoe our friends from Trowbridge (a town quite close to this one) met us along with their granddaughter Sophia. They very kindly transported us and our luggage to the house. After getting the luggage in the house, we had lunch at a cafe on the canal in front of the house and then Pat took us to the grocery store where we could stock up. We had a great visit with them.

Bradford is a small town with many old buildings built on the River Avon. There is one building from the 1600's that the front bulges out and looks like it could fall over at any time!! Right in front of the house is the Avon Canal and a small lock that the small canal barges and houseboats use. When they come through, two people have to get out and manually push the lock doors open/close. There is also an old Tithe Barn built in the 1300's where the local farmers brought their crops to support the nuns at the Abbey.
