Archeology in Santorini (behind Ron that is)

A village in Santorini covered by volcanic ash around 1600 BC

We got a pleasant surprise when we arrived in Athens last Saturday, we had jumped straight from Gold, passing Ruby and had reached Platinum status with Princess Cruises. So we now each have some internet hours during the course of the last week of our cruise.

Our second visit to Athens on Saturday was hot and humid and we didn't bother going ashore to explore more than we'd seen a week before, rather we got our laundry done! While docked in Athens we said goodbye to about 2,500 passengers and gained 2,500 new faces. Our ship is again sailing at full capacity, so over 5,000 passengers and crew aboard. After Athens we sailed around to Santorini where we visited a Minoan town covered by ash from a volcano about 1,600 BC and only recently uncovered. Following that we did a bit of sightseeing around the island before spending time wandering the city. Today is an "at sea" day so an opportunity to just chill out and get some use from our free internet.

Tomorrow we're back in Kotor, Montanegro where we plan to explore the town, our ship anchors just a 5 minute tender ride from the town centre. We also recently found out the reason for our three seperate visits to Kotor which always bemused us. The cruise was supposed to also go to Malta and a couple of ports in Turkey but prior to us booking our trip Princess had removed Malta and Turkey as destinations for security reasons, thus the need to add or revisit other ports of call.

Thinking of you all, Graeme and Ron
