Tonight I attended a special evening with Pastor Rob and Kathy Harrell celebrating 26 years of service to our church. During that time he preached at least 3,152 sermons!
He is leaving his position as senior pastor to lead a new ministry and will preach his final sermon tomorrow. We hate to lose him as pastor but, at the same time, we wish him God-speed in his new endeavor. The new ministry is called “Shepherd’s Support International” (SSI). SSI provides pastors and wives conferences around the world. He also will encourage pastors and business leaders locally and internationally through English Language Institute. The board members have conferred on him the title, Pastor Emeritus. They will remain in Austin and will attend the church when they are in town.
We enjoyed a reception with music by a classical guitarist, followed by an excellent catered dinner with music by a jazz combo. The program included a “roast-toast” done by several members. Some of them were really funny. At each place at the table there was a fan that read, “Celebrating 26 years of service – Pastor Rob and Kathy” and on the back was the face of either Pastor Rob or Kathy.
