We arrived in the late afternoon at the point outside of Venice which was as far as big buses could go. Then much to our surprise we were handed people mover tickets and told we had to walk to the people mover then walk to the hotel toting our carryons. The luggage went directly by boat. It was warm and the final walk was almost a mile and over two bridges. We were not happy. This event, as it turned out, was the only thing we didn't like about the trip.
Again the Hotel Carlton was lovely, situated right on the Grand Canal across the street from the train station. It had a roof top bar where a few of us adjourned for happy hour.
