The trip from Billings, MT to Spearfish, SD covered 285 miles which is a little longer than we like to go but it wasn't too bad. We went from the south-central part of Montana through the southeastern part of the state, including the Crow and Cheyenne Indian reservations, then through the northeast corner of Wyoming into Spearfish which is in the northwest most part of South Dakota. The terrain was varied but was mostly the high plains we have been in for quite some time. Many think of it as desolate and ugly but we enjoy the views of wide open spaces and mostly the very light traffic!!
We are staying at the Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort
, or is it the Elkhorn Ridge RV Park? The sign at the entrance says RV Park but the literature and web site say RV Resort! Either way it is an extremely nice park with huge sites for this area, 50 amps, full hookup on almost level concrete pads. The long pull-throughs will accommodate the largest of RVs and their tows/toads. We have a clear shot to the satellite and good Verizon coverage. They also have free WiFi which works very well when the park is almost empty as it is this late in the season.
We drove the loop through Spearfish Canyon and then back down through Lead and Deadwood today. It wasn't a long drive, except for the construction delay, and presented us with some very nice scenery.
Tomorrow we head for a five-night stay at Custer State Park just south of here where we will again see mucho, mucho wildlife!!
