Left BA at the ungodly hour of 7am and have clocked up over 3000 kms in the past few days. The weather has been getting steadily colder - no more complaining of 40° temps. Our first night on the road ended up with a beach camp literally - at a place called Monte Hermoso beautiful cold night with a magnificent sunset didn't, see the sunrise as we were packed and on the truck by 6!!! Next stop was Puerto Madryn where there is a World Heritage Park - the best toilets in Argentina according to our guide - Lucrezia. Saw penguins, sea lions and elephant seals grey foxes and guanaco which look a little like llamas. But my site of the day was an armadillo, I'd kept missing them but got to not only spot this one but follow it around near our truck so very cool. Went out to dinner at a nice place on the harbour arrived around 9.30 but were still quite early. Families with small children were arriving as we finished eating.

Our next stop, Camarones, was to visit a penguin colony. Unfortunately it had been raining and the truck wouldn't go up the necessary hills so made early camp, fortunately with some shelter, as the rain came down steadily so cooked in my raincoat - after dinner went to the local hotel for a cup of tea - this was a village settled by Welsh people and tea is quite popular - the rest of my companions drank the pub out of red wine - I think they only had about 6 bottles to start with. Yet another pre dawn start with wet tents it really wasn't any fun. We were all starting to get a bit grumpy by then after 4 very long truck days and no penguins. One more camping night and we then arrived here which is El Chalten - had our first glimpses of the snow capped Andes.
