|Arrival at Dickinson, Texas
Well, today was arrival day at Dickinson, Texas, which is where Jared and Megan live. It is approximately 25 miles south of Houston, towards Galveston. The trip over from San Antonio was fairly uneventful, other than my nail-biting, hand-gripping stretch on the Houston freeways and toll road. As Houston is the 4th largest city in the U.S. (according to Jared), there are a few folks around. Nothing like a nice 4-5 lane freeway to get the juices going!!
So I made it to my destination in one piece, and the park site is only two miles from their house, which makes it convenient.
Of course, after getting the trailer set up, and the truck unhitched, my first order of business was going to their house to meet Lily. You know how grandparents are!! It took us a few minutes, but we warmed up to each other in no time. And of course, the first request of the new parents was for to Grandpa to babysit for a couple hours! Nothing like getting off to a fast start on this grandparent thing.
The other reason I tried to get here by this time was that Jan and Fred (Megan's folks) were still here, but were flying out today. So I wanted to get here in time to see them before they departed. Jan had been here since the end of August, so she had Lily fairly well trained!
