Sahara: Brrrrrr ... COLD !!!

Sahara: Sunset

Sahara: Sunset

Sahara: Moon at sunrise

Sahara: Loooooooooooong legs!

Sahara: Cameron the camel!

After a 9hr bus ride, we could see the red sand dunes of the Sahara off in the horizon. As the sun started to set, the dunes got redder and redder.

They were bigger and more amazing than we had imagined we'd be seeing on our tour. Turns out this area is home to Morocco's only real erg (huge drifting expanse of dunes like you see in the movies), and is the area where 'The Mummy' was filmed.

As we set off on our camels all in tow, with a guides on foot, all we could think of was Star Wars - the landscape was very similar and Hassan looked like a Jawa in his jalabah. The ride was better than we thought it would be --not too uncomfortable, and we soon arrived at our Berber-like camp for the night.

We spent the night watching the stars, and climbing a huge dune to get a view of the lights of Merzouga.

....and froze our jubblies off wearing 4 layers each to bed including polar fleece and 6 blankets.
