We left Mt. Rushmore early this morning, about 7:30am, for the drive up to Hardin, MT. First, we had to drive through Wyoming - neither of us had been in the state before. It reminded us a lot of Southern Alberta - especially the foothill areas west of Calgary - lot's of rolling hills with mountains way off in the distance.
We stopped at a rest stop in Sundance, Wyoming, to have breakfast. A sign mentioned something about the 'Sundance Kid' but we didn't find out what the connection was. It was hot all the way through Wyoming - up to 37C!
About 15 miles from today's destination, the KOA in Hardin, MT, we passed the Little Big Horn River and the site of the Custer Battlefield. We are going to go back early tomorrow morning to tour the battleground before it gets too hot. Mo and Molly, the lucky dogs, get to stay in the air-conditioned comfort of the 5th wheel for a few hours - they won't mind that a bit as it is really hot here - mid 30C, although the owner says it cools down to 60F at night - we'll see, I hope he's right or we'll be running up his electric bill with our a/c.
The campsite here in Hardin is quite nice. They have a great outdoor pool - Paulette and I have already been for one swim and will probably take a dip before bedtime. As long as the campsites have a wifi connection I'm happy - and, all the KOA's so far have had great hi-speed wireless access for free!
So, tomorrow it's off to the Custer Memorial and Battleground!
Day 2 at Hardin KOA
We woke up this morning to a little excitement - an airplane flying very low over our campsite - making about a half dozen passes. Paulette went outside to see what was going on and saw it was a crop-duster working in a field adjacent to our RV park. She got a good picture of the plane during one pass over our RV - I'm sure the pilot enjoyed waking everybody up at an early hour!
