We were up and gone by a little after 7am, even though first light was not to be until 7:20 – there was a little red in the east, and with our lights, it was easy to hook-up and get on the road – we knew we had a long day.
Mostly, it was uneventful – we had planned to take a KS highway to go way out and around Wichita, but when we were almost there, a detour sign appeared, and we had to take KS96, the bypass for Wichita. Being a Sunday, the traffic was not horrible, even though it was a holiday weekend. It was very difficult to find truck stops with any fast food nearby on the way down I-135, so after stopping at one that was not yet open, we found another where we picked up sandwiches from the deli.
We arrived at Coachlight just after 4pm – glad we had called earlier, as the place is really jammed! Hungry after our scant lunch, after fueling the truck, we enjoyed a great dinner at Cracker Barrel, just 10 miles down the road toward Joplin.
Crashed for the evening, we don’t plan on leaving early tomorrow – just have under 100 miles to home.
