San Juan is always farther away than it should be. In my mind it is a simple jaunt to the northern Caribbean, but it took us all day to get here - as it always does! We couldn't get a good deal on the non stop flight, so we paused in Orlando before continuing on. Fourteen of us took the whole flight so in that pause, the Southwest staff quickly and efficiently cleaned up the plane, loaded more snacks, exchanged passengers and we were off again. It took only forty minutes. We were glad we had brought along a sandwich from Chicago. There was no time to get off and buy anything to eat and Southwest never has anything onboard more filling than a bag of peanuts.

Last fall when we came through San Juan on our way to our niece's wedding in St. John, we got lost in the terminal. Major construction and renovation is ongoing and they hadn't gotten around to putting up the directional signage. Today we fared much better, passing through a newly constructed section that was totally finished. The luggage arrived promptly and all was well with the world.

Taxis wait for passengers at this airport out of sight and the organizational dudes, ask you where you are going, tell you what it should cost and radio someone to take you there. Very efficient! No worries about negotiating or getting ripped off. Our hotel overlooks the cruise ship harbor and we should be able to see the Jewel of the Seas arrive tomorrow morning.
