|We had a fun, several hours in Charlotte. Loved getting carded at the bar, but since they card everyone, it is not all that special. We met several couples, all heading off on fun adventures. Finally, we were in the air!! The flight went smoothly and somewhat quickly, aided by an Ambien, and soon we were at Gatwick. A train ride, then a tube ride and we were standing in front of our hotel. The good news was that our room was ready three hours before check in. The bad news was there were two people already, or still, in it! After a quick trip back to the front desk: Upgrade!! It is usually hard to find a British or European hotel room description that contains all of the following: non smoking, air conditioning, and king sized bed,but here it was. After a short walk around the neighborhood, we were back for a shower and a nap. We felt 1000 times better, and were ready to hit the town. We took the tube to St James Park and proceeded to walk past famous site after famous site. Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Scotland Yard, etc. The weather was gorgeous, sunny with a bright blue sky! We walked along the River for quite a while, then went a couple blocks left (inland?) and headed down a busy, main street. Finally, it was time for a pub! The Red Lion was packed, as was the Sherlock Holmes. We ended up at the Ship and Shovell which turned out to be a busy, friendly place. Pictures to follow... We headed back to our hotel about 8 pm, in time to watch the sunset from the top floor restaurant. It was a beautiful view, especially after dark with the city lights. We were very glad to spend the night horizontally! I think those overnight flights are better suited for backpacking college students!! Tomorrow is supposed to be another perfect weather day!
