Seals on a sandbank in the distance

Depart Coromandel: 189 km (09.00)

It's midday and we've just arrived in the Colville Bay Motel and Campground, a small business with a few motel rooms and a handful of camper sites. Nick is outside putting the finishing touches on the bikes, and giving them a clean as they managed to get filthy on the back of camper yesterday.

This morning we woke just before 6am. We had a really good sleep last night, only waking once at around 2 to go to the loo. Having en suite facilities is certainly a blessing at that time in the morning. Mind you, the facilities on the campground last night at Coromandel were fantastic. The shower and toilet block was very clean with all main amenities – even a hairdryer. We had a leisurely first breakfast (cereal and toast – how British) and shower and after batoning down, pootled into town for a few supplies.

This morning we drove from Coromandel up through Colville along a minor road to where the road ends in a T junction. Both directions became unsealed gravel roads – steep and windy – no place for a camper! So we turned around and have pulled in here for the night, and plan to bike up the gravel road (oh my god!) to Port Jackson. I think Nick said it was 15 km (30 there and back!). Not sure how far we'll get...but the adventure truly starts here!
